There are few pairings as iconic and comforting as cookies and milk. The Wholesome Goodness of Chocolate Milk for Your Halloween Shenanigans

When planning your Halloween party menu or simply looking for a fun after-school snack, it’s reassuring to know that you can offer treats that are both delicious and nutritious. Chocolate milk is a fantastic example of this. Despite its sweet flavor, it’s far more than just a sugary drink. Dietary guidelines often recommend that children consume two to three cups of milk and milk products daily, depending on their age, and chocolate milk proudly counts as a serving of dairy. Just like its classic counterpart, an 8-ounce glass of chocolate milk delivers nine essential nutrients, including a robust 8 grams of high-quality protein. This makes it an excellent choice to help fuel all those exciting Halloween activities, from trick-or-treating adventures to costume parties!

Monster Cookie Pops served with milk

Many prominent health and nutrition organizations, such as the American Academy of Pediatrics, endorse chocolate milk as a beneficial alternative to soft drinks, which are often the primary source of added sugars in children’s diets. Choosing chocolate milk allows kids to enjoy a sweet beverage while still getting vital nutrients like calcium, vitamin D, and potassium, which are crucial for strong bones and overall healthy development. It’s a win-win: kids get a treat they love, and parents can feel good about the nutritional boost. Milk, including chocolate milk, provides eight times more naturally occurring, high-quality protein than most almond and rice milks in every 8-ounce glass, and is one of the original farm-to-table foods—a wholesome, simple, and minimally processed beverage.

To truly embrace the spirit of Halloween and make chocolate milk the official drink of the season, let’s dive into creating these incredibly fun Monster Eyeball Cookie Pops and complement them with our eerie yet appealing monster eyeball glasses of chocolate milk! It’s an imaginative way to celebrate and enjoy the holiday with loved ones.

Crafting Your Spooky Monster Eyeball Cookie Pops

This recipe builds upon my tried-and-true chocolate chip cookie base, scaled down to produce approximately 13-14 delightful Monster Eyeball Cookie Pops. Feel free to substitute with your own cherished chocolate chip cookie recipe if you have one you adore! The key is the fun transformation. Below you’ll find a detailed list of ingredients and step-by-step instructions to guide you through this exciting baking adventure.

Ingredients for Monster Eyeball Cookie Pops:

  • 4.25 ounces (about 1 cup) Cake flour, for a tender crumb
  • 4.25 ounces (about 1 cup) All-purpose flour, providing structure
  • ½ teaspoon Baking soda, for rise and spread
  • ¾ teaspoons Baking powder, for extra lift
  • ¾ teaspoon Kosher salt, to balance the sweetness
  • 10 tablespoons Unsalted butter, at room temperature, for easy creaming
  • 5 ounces (about ½ cup packed) Light brown sugar, for chewiness and depth of flavor
  • 4 ounces (about ½ cup) Granulated sugar, for sweetness and crisp edges
  • 1 Large egg, essential for binding and moisture
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract, enhancing all the flavors
  • 7.5 oz bag Dark chocolate or semi-sweet chocolate chips (roughly half a standard bag), for classic chocolate goodness
  • Candy eyeballs, for that signature monster look
  • 12-inch lollipop sticks, to turn cookies into pops

Instructions for Monster Eyeball Cookie Pops:

  1. Begin by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and ensure even baking.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the dry ingredients: cake flour, all-purpose flour, baking soda, baking powder, and Kosher salt. This ensures they are well combined.
  3. In a separate, larger mixing bowl, cream together the softened unsalted butter with both the light brown sugar and granulated sugar until the mixture is light and fluffy. This step incorporates air, making the cookies tender.
  4. Add the large egg and vanilla extract to the creamed mixture. Mix until everything is thoroughly combined and smooth.
  5. Gradually stir the dry ingredients into the wet mixture. Mix just until combined; be careful not to overmix, as this can lead to tough cookies.
  6. Fold in the chocolate chips. Stir gently until they are evenly distributed throughout the dough.
  7. Measure out approximately 3 tablespoons of cookie dough for each pop. Roll the dough into a smooth ball. Place about 4 balls of dough onto your prepared baking sheet, ensuring they are spaced far apart. For best results with sticks, offset them slightly so that the sticks will have room.
  8. Carefully insert a lollipop stick about three-quarters of the way into each cookie dough ball. The stick should be secure but not poke through the top.
  9. Bake for 13-15 minutes, or until the edges of the cookies are just beginning to turn golden brown and the centers appear set. Baking times can vary by oven, so keep an eye on them.
  10. Remove the baking sheet from the oven and place it on a wire rack. While the cookies are still hot and pliable, use the edge of a spatula or a round cookie cutter (larger than the cookie) to gently shape any cookies that have spread unevenly back into a perfect circle.
  11. Immediately add the candy eyeballs to the hot cookies! The residual heat will slightly melt the chocolate, allowing the eyeballs to adhere perfectly. *Pro Tip: While you can add eyeballs before baking, they tend to melt a little in the oven, so adding them afterwards ensures they look much more distinct and vibrant.*
  12. Allow the cookie pops to cool on the baking sheet for about five minutes before carefully transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely. This helps them firm up and prevents breakage.

Why You’ll Love These Monster Eyeball Cookie Pops

  • Kid-Friendly Fun: From rolling the dough to sticking on the eyeballs, this recipe is perfect for involving little hands in the kitchen.
  • Deliciously Familiar: Based on a classic chocolate chip cookie, these pops offer a comforting taste that everyone loves.
  • Festive & Photogenic: The candy eyeballs instantly transform a simple cookie into a Halloween masterpiece, perfect for parties and Instagram.
  • Portable Perfection: The lollipop stick makes them easy to hold and eat, ideal for party snacking without messy fingers.
  • Nutritious Pairing: Serving them with chocolate milk ensures a treat that offers both fun and essential nutrients.

Tips for Perfect Cookie Pops Every Time

  • Room Temperature Butter: This is crucial for achieving that light, fluffy texture when creaming with sugar. If your butter isn’t soft, you won’t incorporate enough air.
  • Don’t Overmix: Once you add the dry ingredients, mix just until combined. Overmixing develops the gluten, leading to tougher cookies.
  • Proper Spacing: Give your cookie dough balls plenty of room on the baking sheet. They will spread, and you don’t want them merging into one giant monster blob (unless that’s the look you’re going for!).
  • Eyeball Timing: As mentioned, adding candy eyeballs while the cookies are still hot out of the oven is key for them to melt slightly and adhere properly without getting overly distorted during baking.
  • Cooling is Key: Let the cookies set on the baking sheet for a few minutes before moving them to a wire rack. This helps them solidify around the lollipop stick and prevents breakage.

Ingredients

  • 4.25 ounces cake flour
  • 4.25 ounces all purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ¾ teaspoons baking powder
  • ¾ teaspoon Kosher salt
  • 10 tablespoons unsalted butter room temperature
  • 5 ounces packed light brown sugar
  • 4 ounces granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 7.5 oz bag dark chocolate or semi-sweet chocolate chips (1/2 bag)
  • Candy eyeballs
  • 12- inch lollipop sticks

Before You Begin

You CAN add the eyeball before baking, but they melt a little, so they look much better if added after baking!

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  2. In a large bowl combine both flours, baking soda, baking powder, and Kosher salt.

  3. In a separate mixing bowl, cream together butter, brown sugar and granulated sugar.

  4. Add egg and vanilla extract and mix until combined well.

  5. Stir in dry ingredients.

  6. Add chocolate chips and stir until combined.

  7. Measure out 3 tablespoons of dough and roll it into a ball. Place 4 balls of dough onto the sheet, two at each end, offset (so that sticks don’t hit cookies, see next step).

  8. Insert lollipop sticks about 3/4 way into the cookie ball.

  9. Bake for 13-15 minutes, or until edges are just starting to turn golden brown and centers are set.

  10. Remove from oven and place pan on wire rack. Use the edge of a spatula to shape any cookies that spread out of shape.

  11. Add candy eyeballs to the cookies while they are still hot!

  12. Let cool for five minutes before moving to the cooling rack to cool completely.

The recipes on this blog are tested with a conventional gas oven and gas stovetop. It’s important to note that some ovens, especially as they age, can cook and bake inconsistently. Using an inexpensive oven thermometer can assure you that your oven is truly heating to the proper temperature. If you use a toaster oven or countertop oven, please keep in mind that they may not distribute heat the same as a conventional full sized oven and you may need to adjust your cooking/baking times. In the case of recipes made with a pressure cooker, air fryer, slow cooker, or other appliance, a link to the appliances we use is listed within each respective recipe. For baking recipes where measurements are given by weight, please note that results may not be the same if cups are used instead, and we can’t guarantee success with that method.
